For any of you curious people wondering, I was on a temporary hiatus because of school. Yes, I’m a teenager still in school and not a thirty-five year old woman. Moving on.

Modern Victorian. A bit of an oxymoron, I know. Most people when they think of Victorian they think of drab, dull, dresses. However which a touch of imagination and artistry, Victorian style on anyone could turn out amazing.

And I’m here to give a few a pointers along the way.

Try Different Types Of Victorian Fashion

Think to yourself, do you want to dress more Goth Victorian, Girly Victorian, or some sort of middle ground?

Find your niche and stick to it.

Once you’ve done that, be ready to…

Throw In Some Modern Features

Such as this outfit. You can clearly see the Victorian style cuts and prints.

However the skirt is cut a lot shorter and there is her modern shoes, bag, and her sunglasses.

Don’t be afraid to mix and match to see what works for you.

Check The Facts

When you decide to wear a historical-inspired outfit, make sure to fact check to make sure it is somewhat accurate to that timeline. Yes, we are modernizing it a bit, but make sure it looks like an outfit and not a costume, for god’s sake.

But I digress.

Take Inspiration From Influencers And/Or Models

Yes, this outfit is more modern than Victorian, but we can still see Victorian elements, such as the corset and the Victorian style top.

The modern twist is the jeans and heels.

Add In Little But Important Details

Such as hair, makeup, and different textures. This quick diagram will show you how:

This article is part of a new series called “Old But Still Gold” meaning the news is a few weeks or maybe even a few months old but is still running through news outlets today.

Such as this topic. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Windsor have decided to step down from being senior members of royalty and claim that they will be “financially independent.”

Hmmm, we’ll see how that goes.

Anyway, according to new sources Meghan and Harry will no longer be called “prince” or “princess” or have their royal titles “Her/His Royal Highness” but they will still have their titles “Duke and Duchess of Sussex” meaning that they will still be considered royalty, just not as high ranking.

However, both Meghan and Harry have decided make the move to America and start a new life there.

Many people have speculated that Meghan Markle will go back into acting or start a charity organization, but the most popular rumour is that she will go into fashion design or perhaps modelling.

What the fashion brand going to be Meghan, “From Royally Obsessed To Royally Disgusted?”

Hope not.

Anyways, both Meghan and Harry are living a happy life and that’s all that matters.

Or is it?

Because from my sources (AKA twitter), ever since this particular announcement was made, Meghan has received lots of subtle racist remarks from news outlets such as Daily Mail and The Guardian. Most of these are in comparison to Kate. Meghan and Kate have done many similar things ever since they became royalty, but Kate has been praised for it while Meghan has been shamed for it.

There are many more disturbing articles, but this is just one of them.

The subtle racist remarks have started ever since Meghan got engaged, but have particularly ramped up recently.

So racist news outlets, get a grip.

And Meghan and Harry, have a safe new chapter.

Just a couple hours ago I arrived on a covert flight from Fiji back to Auckland.

When I went past security, a startling announcement appeared on the loudspeaker. “Attention all passengers. Processing will be paused due to a security issue. I repeat…” you get the idea.

Many people on Twitter are reportingly calling it, and I quote, “queues from hell.”

Yikes.

Luckily I managed to get out there before a major catastrophe happened, but many mortals weren’t so lucky.

As one of the first people to report about this issue (quit gloating, NZ Herald) and the first amatuer journalist to report on this issue, just remember,

Since New Year’s Day is just around the corner, I thought I’d share you some of my sneaky New Year’s secrets.

Let’s get into it.

Fireworks Can Be Just Around The Corner

Well, probably not around the corner, but there probably will be one in your city or hometown. Ask around for more information.

Dress To Impress

Here’s a friendly reminder, this would not be a Girl Overload post without at least one fashion tip.

Case in point; Wear a sequin skirt and black top, a black sequin dress, a light sequin dress, a pair of cute black/blue jeans and a sequin top, e.t.c.

Long story short, wear either black, sequins/sparkles, or both. You can never go wrong with too many sequins, despite what people say.

Celebrate With Friends Or Family

This is one of the most important steps. While New Year’s Eve/Day is generally celebrated with friends, if you’re in the same boat as me where most of your friends are on holiday and you’re stuck at home, celebrate with family! Both are perfectly fine.

Have A Dramatic Countdown

Always remember the big countdown. Whether you decide to broadcast it on TV or just decided to have a small countdown on your phone, don’t forget this step!

Christmas season is here everybody, so this time I decided to share my Christmas wisdom with you all and spread some Christmas cheer with today’s post.

Let’s get to it.

Wear Red, Green, and White

Although obviously not all together, as you don’t want to end up looking like an Italian flag. Take special cues from these outfits above, such as wear mostly white with a pop of colour such as red or green. Mix and match but don’t overdo it.

Work With Layers and Levels

Such as this picture here. Yes, it’s a bit blurry, but work with it, ok?

Anyways, mix long coats with shorts dresses or small jumpers with long pants. As mentioned on the last step, don’t overdo it. Less is more when it come to Christmas outfits.

Christmas Sweaters Can Be Cute

Despite everyone saying that you need to wear a fancy dress and heels on Christmas or otherwise it’s “not really Christmas,” you can celebrate Christmas with just a sweater and jeans, even it’s a so called “ugly sweater.”

Just Have Fun… And Rock It

And finally, the most important Christmas rule of all, have fun!

No matter what top or shoes you wear, rock your outfit and enjoy time with your friends and family, because 1, that’s what Christmas is all about, and 2, you deserve it.

Victoria’s Secret. We all know it as the glam lingerie and beauty company that has exclusive fashion shows every year.

But what if we look deeper, beyond the surface even?

Because Victoria’s Secret has been spamming people with their endless campaigns for decades now. Billboard after billboard, advertisement after advertisement; no matter where you look, Victoria’s Secret is always watching.

And that’s not the only issue. Because of these countless advertisements, many women, old and young alike, have been insecure in their bodies. They constantly think that if their bodies and faces do not fulfill the so-called “fantasy” they will never be beautiful or well-liked.

And that’s not true at all.

Luckily brands such as Aerie and Dove have been stepping in to provide numerous body positivity campaigns worldwide.

Such as this campaign and many more. Am I the only one who sees the major difference?

Because of these comparisons and many more, Victoria’s Secret has received endless backlash, with hashtags such as #CancelVictoriasSecret constantly appearing all over Instagram.

Victoria’s Secret even had to cancel this years acclaimed “Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show” because of the numerous hate and backlash.

Victoria’s Secret; Spam or Scam?

And you heard this right.

Demi Lovato took to Instagram a few days ago to debut a picture of her with her newfound “baby-bump.”

She even captioned the photo “Real or Fake?” leaving a lot of her followers and the general public in huge denial. Most celebrities such as Nikita Dragun and Kalen Allen seem to believe that this Instagram post is fake and she just ate a lot, such as Nikita, with her saying “me after chipotle…”

Most fans seem to believe that this is real though and Demi is in fact, pregnant. One person, who I won’t disclose for privacy reasons, commented “Is this real? Cause if so Demi you would be a great mom ♥️.”

Overall the jury seems on be on debate on that one, with approximately half of the people thinking that this is real, and the other half seems to believe that this is fake. Everyone else, about 5% of people appear to be undecided.

Every single news outlet such as Cosmopolitan, OK Magazine, and IHeart Radio seem to weighing in on the theory, with most of them being unbiased or undecided.

Me? I’m personally still unsure until the truth is known, but I guess time will tell.

Update: I had to take a temporary hiatus because of exams (and yes, I’m still in school if you’re wondering).

But Girl Overload is back, and she’s here to share her fashion words of wisdom with everyone yet again.

Starting with mid-weather fashion. Whether you live in the Northern or Southern hemisphere, your current weather will probably be either spring or autumn/fall. And yes, this information probably won’t be useful for people in tropical countries, but since I live in the Southern Hemisphere and it’s almost summer where I live, a special summer post will come soon, so stay tuned for that.

Mid-Weather Knockouts. Anyone can achieve this look, just with a bit of creativity and perseverance.

So here goes.

Layers Are Key

As mentioned in this particular image, wearing bulky coats are not a good idea in term of mid-weather fashion and opting for light jackets is a much better choice overall.

The only time where any person should wear is in the extreme snowy cold or when temperatures drop any lower than 10°C.

Closed Toed Shoes Are A Must

Closed toed shoes such as boots, ballet flats, sneakers, or even heels, are a definite must throughout the autumn and/or spring. Try not to wear sandals or flip-flops throughout any seasons except for summer, as it might give you a serious case of cold feet, and trust me, I know from experience.

Accessorize And Style Your Outfits Depending On The Season

As seen on this image, you need to choose your outfit and accessories based on what season it is. Wear more muted tones with a pop of colour in autumn and wear more polka dots and girly pastels in the spring.

Here’s a classic example. Except, maybe don’t wear jeans and sneakers in the summer unless you want to catch a major case of burning legs.

But maybe that’s just my opinion.

Search Up Parisian Outfits Online

This one is pretty self explanatory. Lots of parisian themed outfits are neither summer nor winter themed, so go research Parisian style on an image browser such as Google Images or Pinterest. Trust me, you won’t feel disappointed!

Blend It All Together With A Fresh Style Icon

Finally, a style icon. Without a true style icon, your look will probably be all over the place. I have mentioned style icons on my blog before, so I definitely recommend that you find a few.

One of my spring style icons is Taylor Swift, with her offbeat outfits and colourful dresses.

Some other good style icons to choose from are Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Camila Cabello, and anyone who just loves a good floral scheme.

Overall, just try to find some good inspiration to tie your look together.
